    Life is a balance

    A friend once told me, life is a balance. To get one thing , you have to give up another.. how true that is.
    In manufacturing environment, it is so true to see life in full glory .. if one party upstream (ie. design team) wants to have their work easy, it surely would make the downstream (ie factory's) work much difficult. If we want to have more quality product, then the cost and speed to produce the goods will have to take a hit. Vice versa, if the cost is to go down, either speed to produce or quality or both factors of product will be reduced
    In life we can invest money or time to attain a goal. In many of life's endeavor, most people invest a lot of money and little time. To give an example when most people think of investing, they turn over their money to fund managers to help them manage their hard earned currency while putting little time into what stocks they are investing, the company they entrust their money and the background of the fund manager. When one puts in time to learn something - when mistakes are made, one will learn from mistake. However to blatantly put in money and invest little time in one's activity, sometimes it's a fool in the making as someone else gains experience by making mistakes on your dollar and cents.

    Trains - amazing transport model for 21st century and beyond

    I believe trains/subways are the future transportation model. Not only can they carry a lot of passengers at once, they can transport and deliver goods and people from rural to urban (city center) areas at volume , cost and speed that no other transport can match.

    China will produce the world's fastest bullet train for the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, a senior railway official has said.

    Zhang Shuguang, deputy chief engineer with the Ministry of Railways, said the domestically developed train will run at 380 kph, the highest speed for any railway in the world.

    And if the project materializes, the travel time between the two metropolises will be cut from five to around four hours (halving previous travel duration between the two major city), enhancing the rail network's competitive edge against airlines, he said.

    Manufacturing 380-kph trains in China is already possible in terms of technology, he said.

    In the past few years, China has imported technology to manufacture 200-250 kph bullet trains from France, Japan and Canada, and German engineering giant Siemens agreed to transfer a full set of technology for manufacturing 350-kph trains.

    "We have mastered core technologies in terms of manufacturing high-speed trains and made innovative achievements in the process," he said.

    "It is possible that we can start to manufacture 380-kph trains in two years' time, and put them into service on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway," he said.

    Construction of the railway is progressing smoothly, according to He Huawu, the ministry's chief engineer.

    It is likely that the high-speed line can be finished within four years, and become operational in 2012, one year ahead of schedule.
